Sofia Health was founded and is led by Riley Rees, a U.S. Air Force veteran with more than 20 years of service and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Her connection to health care began in uniform, where she provided direct patient care as a certified EMT and Aeromedical Evacuation Technician.

But her path to founding Sofia Health was personal. After years of flying, she developed radiating pain and couldn't move her neck — symptoms she couldn't yet name, and didn't know were a herniated disc. Told her only option was pain pills, she set out to find real answers herself. The providers who helped her most were complementary and integrative practitioners who work alongside conventional medicine — acupuncturists and other specialists. But like most people, she didn't know to search for them by title. She only knew her symptoms. The care existed; it was just nearly impossible to find.
